David Shabazian

David Shabazian most recently served as the Director of the California Department of Conservation. From working the soil with his hands to leading policies for working lands, David is a lifelong champion for natural resource stewardship. His career is built on bringing diverse stakeholders together with innovative methods to protect both the ecological and economic value of our natural and working lands. David was the Rural-Urban Connections Strategy Program Manager at the Sacramento Area Council of Governments from 2000 to 2019 and a Graduate Researcher at the University of California, Davis from 1996 to 2000. David also was a Planner I at the City of Davis Planning Department from 1994 to 1996. David is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council for the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at University of California, Davis. He earned a Master of Science degree in Transportation Technology and Policy from the University of California, Davis and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural and Managerial Economics at the University of California, Davis.
