Pierce's Disease and Glassy-winged Sharpshooter Board (PD/GWSS Board)

The Pierce’s Disease/Glassy-winged Sharpshooter (PD/GWSS) Board is composed of 14 representatives from the winegrape industry and one public member. It provides recommendations to the Secretary on the use of funds collected under the PD/GWSS winegrape assessment. The focus of Board funds is on research to find solutions to Pierce’s disease but under certain conditions the Board is also able to fund research and outreach on other designated pests and diseases of winegrapes. The Board has designated the following additional pests and diseases: brown marmorated stink bug, European grapevine moth, grapevine fanleaf disease, grapevine leafroll disease, grapevine red blotch disease, mealybug pests of winegrapes, and spotted lanternfly.

Members FAC Section 6047.3 states the following about PD/GWSS Board members: 1) 8 winegrape producers who are not processors, 2) 6 winegrape growers who are processors and 3) 1 public member. The Secretary shall appoint members from recommendations received from the industry.

California Invasive Species Advisory Committee

The CISAC was created by the Invasive Species Council of California to advise the Council and develop recommentdations. The CISAC provides its advice based upon input from and cooperation with other stakeholders and existing organizations addressing invasive species issues.

Members 19 members - 4 from CDFA; 4 from Resources Agency; 1 from EPA; 1 from Cal STA; 1 from HHS; 1 from OES; 1 from CACASA; and final 6 are open.

Vertebrate Pest Control Research Advisory Committee

VPCRAC research projects investigate effective and economical alternative materials for the control of vertebrate pests. To solicit and consider research proposals for alternative humane methods of control, and continue the state's current vertebrate pest control product registrations until such time as effective alternative products are available. This research is for the development of scientific data required to maintain CDFA's rodenticide registrations. VPCRAC cooperates with the US Department of Agriculture in funding research programs to maintain, develop, and register vertebrate pest control materials used in California.

Members 11 members: 1 CDFA, 1 Ag Commissioner, 1 University California, 1 California State University, 1 State Dept. of Human Health, 1 from the general public and 5 members from agricultural industries representing affected commodities.
Length of Term Not specified. Failure to attend 3 consecutive meetings is grounds for the Committee to recomend dismissing the memeber.

California Cotton Pest Control Board

Directs the Pink Bollworm (PBW) Program in monitoring and controlling the pink bollworm in accordance with the USDA Area Wide PBW Eradication Program. Utilizes IPM strategies including, area wide trap monitoring, pheromone rope mating disruption, sterile insect technique areial release, Bt cotton, cotton plow down restrictions, etc.

Beet Curly Top Virus Control Board

Directs the Beet Curly Top Virus Control (BCTVC) Program in monitoring and controlling the spread of Beet Curly Top Virus which infects several ground crops including tomatoes, peppers, melons, beans, cucumbers, squash, and others by its only known vector, the beet leafhopper.
