Tom Hedt EFA SAP Subject Matter Expert

Tom Hedt serves as the State Resource Conservationist for the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) California. Tom leads the ecological sciences section, with responsibility for such diverse technical fields as agronomy, air quality, biology, environmental compliance, forestry, range management, plant materials, cultural resources, and conservation planning. He provides leadership to strategically focus NRCS conservation planning, practice standards and technical tools to address California priorities.

Tom has over 30 years of experience with the NRCS, working in four western states: Alaska, Arizona, California, and Washington State. His prior assignments have included: Assistant State Conservationist Watershed Planning, Assistant State Conservationist for Programs, District Conservationist, and Soil Conservationist. His experience has given him the opportunity to address resource issues through planning and design of systems related to dairy waste management, cropland erosion control, grazing land health, riparian restoration, salmon habitat, and farms on the urban/suburban fringe. Tom graduated from Washington State University with Bachelors of Science degrees in Soils and Agronomy. He has a Master of Science in Environmental Policy and Management from American Public University. Tom is a native of Washington State.
