Health requirements for admitting Horses and other equidae into California
All Equidae must be accompanied by a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection from the state of origin, issued by an accredited veterinarian, stating that the horse or other Equidae are free from evidence of any communicable disease and have completed Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) test requirements.
EIA TEST REQUIREMENTS
- A negative test for EIA conducted in a U.S.D.A. approved laboratory, within 6 months prior to entry.
- Entry is not allowed until the EIA test has been COMPLETED and reported negative. Equidae with tests "pending" are not acceptable.
EXEMPT:
- A nursing foal less than 6 months of age when accompanied by the EIA negative dam.
- California "working horses" used for seasonal ranching purposes outside of California are exempt from the above listed requirements, if prior permit is obtained from the Animal Health Branch.
- Equidae consigned for immediate slaughter.
- Equidae moved from California to another state for a period of not more than 14 days (applies to continental United States only).
