STATE BOARD OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE TO DISCUSS LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES THAT ADVANCE OPPORTUNITIES FOR FARMERS, RANCHERS, FARM WORKERS AND COMMUNITIES AT JUNE 4TH MEETING

SACRAMENTO, May 29, 2024 - The California State Board of Food and Agriculture will discuss local economic initiatives that advance opportunities within agricultural communities at its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. The meeting will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the California Department of Food and Agriculture, 1220 N Street – Main Auditorium, Sacramento, CA 95814.
 
The Board will also hear updates related to 2024 Farm Bill, the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and CDFA’s 2024/2025 Budget.

“California agriculture is an economic driver within local communities throughout our state,” said CDFA Secretary Karen Ross. “Enhancing California’s working lands through investments in technology, farmworker training, small farm resources, and healthy food access initiatives supports new market developments and opportunities within our food system.”
 
Invited speakers include: Derek Kirk, California Labor and Workforce Development Agency; Cesar Lucio, Central Valley Community Foundation; Karen Aceves, Arken Strategies; Joshua Viers, University of California, Merced; Alba Velasquez, Los Angeles Food Policy Council; Timothy Godwin, California Department of Water Resources; and Anne MacMillan, Invariant GR.
 
“As the leading agricultural state in the nation – California is at the forefront of innovation,” said President Don Cameron, California State Board of Food and Agriculture. “The next generation of farms and ranches will provide workforce opportunities in technology and automation that will provide back to local communities – through jobs and climate resilience.”
 
The California State Board of Food and Agriculture advises the governor and CDFA secretary on agricultural issues and consumer needs. The Board conducts forums that bring together local, state and federal government officials; agricultural representatives; and citizens to discuss current issues and concerns to California agriculture.
