SACRAMENTO, November 2, 2023 - The California State Board of Food and Agriculture will discuss economic trends in the agricultural sector, global food production and emerging issues related to land transitions at its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, November 7th.  In addition, the Board will hear an overview of a collaborative effort among growers, retailers and farmworkers to improve the food system and the lives of farmworkers. The meeting will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the California Department of Food and Agriculture, 1220 N Street – Main Auditorium, Sacramento, CA 95814.

“California Ag Vision’s purpose statement:  Making California a better place to live because of what we grow and how we grow it speaks to agriculture’s multiple benefits to all Californians,” said CDFA Secretary Karen Ross. “Collaborations that engage the food supply chain from farmworkers to consumers foster healthy, local communities.  It is encouraging to see efforts like the Equitable Food Initiative provide value and recognition for farmers, ranchers and farmworkers.”
 
Invited speakers include: Peter O’Driscoll, Equitable Food Initiative; Ernie Farley, Good Farms; Ellen Hanak, Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC); Thomas (Tom) Thompson, Global Agricultural Productivity (GAP) Initiative at Virginia Tech; Tanner Ehmke, CoBank's Knowledge Exchange; Adriana Martinez and Kevin Boyle, Equitable Food Initiative and other invited speakers.
 
“Global agricultural production trends along with emerging economic issues have a significant impact to California farms and ranches,”  said President Don Cameron, California State Board of Food and Agriculture. “As the leading agricultural state in the nation, these trends impact production costs, labor needs and price to consumers. California is unique in our agricultural production diversity, however global impacts from climate to conflict, are increasing narrowing options for on-farm production.”
 
The California State Board of Food and Agriculture advises the governor and CDFA secretary on agricultural issues and consumer needs. The Board conducts forums that bring together local, state and federal government officials; agricultural representatives; and citizens to discuss current issues and concerns to California agriculture.
