CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ANNOUNCES A VACANCY ON THE CALIFORNIA FRUIT TREE, NUT TREE, AND GRAPEVINE IMPROVEMENT ADVISORY BOARD

SACRAMENTO, October 27, 2023 - The California Department of Food and Agriculture's (CDFA) Pest Exclusion Branch is announcing vacancies on the California Fruit Tree, Nut Tree, and Grapevine Improvement Advisory Board. The board is composed of 11 voting members that represent all areas of the state involved in the production of pome and stone fruit trees, nut trees, olive trees, and grapevines. 

The board is comprised of the following members:
•    Fruit and nut tree industry representative (4 board positions)
•    Pome industry representative (1 board position)
•    Olive industry representative (1 board position)
•    Grapevine industry representative (4 board positions)
•    Public representative (1 board position)

Members serve for fixed terms of two years, and may be reappointed for up to three consecutive terms. 

The Board currently has four members who are unable to seek reappointment due to term limits: fruit and nut tree industry representative (2 positions), olive industry representative (1 position), and grapevine industry representative (1 position). 

Board members meet at least twice per year but can meet more frequently if needed. Members receive no compensation but are entitled to payment of necessary travel expenses in accordance with the rules of the California Department of Human Resources.

The mission of the California Fruit Tree, Nut Tree, and Grapevine Improvement Advisory Board is to enable production of the highest possible quality grapevine and deciduous fruit and ornamental nursery stock and to help develop and promote consumer education. Individuals interested in being considered for this board appointment should attend the November 8, 2023 board meeting prepared to provide a brief statement of qualifications. The board meeting agenda and notice will be available at the following link: https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/plant/Meetings/

Individuals not able to attend the meeting may provide a statement of qualifications prior to November 1, 2023.
