“The Sacramento Valley is facing unprecedented drought conditions, something that we haven’t experienced in previous drought cycles,” said CDFA Secretary Karen Ross. “Farming, communities and habitat within the Pacific Flyway are all being impacted. There is an immediate need for every Californian to take action to reduce water use on a daily basis.  We are all in this together.”

Invited speakers include: Nancy Vogel, California Natural Resources Agency; Joe Yun, California Water Commission; Michael George, Delta Watermaster - State Water Resources Control Board; Tim Johnson, California Rice Commission;  Ellen Hanak, Public Policy Institute of California; Richard Matoian, American Pistachio Growers; Bill Carriere, Carriere Farms/California Walnut Commission; Richard Waycott, Almond Board of California and other invited speakers.

“Growers of all sizes throughout the state continue to struggle to preserve their livelihoods and their communities as the drought extends into the third year.” said President Don Cameron, California State Board of Food and Agriculture.  “We need to accelerate action on water infrastructure and be innovative in supporting the vital long term role that agricultural lands have in this state’s future.”

The California State Board of Food and Agriculture advises the governor and CDFA secretary on agricultural issues and consumer needs. The Board conducts forums that bring together local, state and federal government officials; agricultural representatives; and citizens to discuss current issues and concerns to California agriculture.
