CDFA OFFICE OF PESTICIDE CONSULTATION AND ANALYSIS TO HOST PUBLIC CONFERENCE

Español

SACRAMENTO, May 19, 2021 – The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) will host a public conference for the Office of Pesticide Consultation and Analysis (OPCA) on June 28-29.

OPCA provides consultation to the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) with a focus on the economic analysis of potential pesticide regulatory impacts and pest management alternatives that may mitigate impacts on production agriculture in California. OPCA also offers several grant programs to further biological alternatives to addressing pests in agricultural systems. OPCA is a program under the CDFA Office Office of Environmental Farming and Innovation.

• The two-day conference will take place virtually on Zoom from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on both June 28, 2021 and June 29, 2021.
• Attendance details, including Zoom information and a meeting agenda, are available at: cdfa.ca.gov/oefi/opca/conference.html

“We’re offering this conference to give the public and stakeholders an opportunity to see and appreciate the good work we do in the OPCA and how this work helps our growers and our state achieve environmental stewardship and agricultural sustainability goals,” said CDFA Secretary Karen Ross.

“OPCA is a key partner for DPR in evaluating the economic impacts of pesticide regulations, most recently in our work on neonicotinoid insecticides,” said DPR Director Val Dolcini. “This meeting is an opportunity to highlight our continued collaboration.”

Introductory comments will be provided by California Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary Karen Ross and California Department of Pesticide Regulation Director Val Dolcini. The conference will provide an overview of the history of OPCA, what OPCA does, summaries of recent regulatory reports, and overviews of OPCA’s grant programs. The audience will hear from grant awardees on their OPCA grant-funded research projects; a panel on how research can be translated into practice; and agricultural economists working with OPCA. There will be opportunities for questions, comments, and feedback throughout the meeting.
