Redesigned site wins “Best of California” award

SACRAMENTO, December 9, 2009 — The California Department’s of Food and Agriculture’s web site has been honored with a “Best of California” award. 

The Center for Digital Government issues the awards annually. CDFA won for Best State Government Web Site.

The site was recently redesigned to introduce movie-style animation on the CDFA home page. The presentation features a series of images under the slogan “CDFA Protects” and demonstrates how the agency protects California’s food supply and environment.  The home page was also reorganized to provide greater ease of navigation.

The redesign project was overseen by Agency Information Officer Chris Cruz and carried out by web designer Jarrett Heather and webmaster Jeff Hillard.

CDFA’s IT shop won two additional “Best of California” awards in 2008, for its leafy greens tracking system and audit verification checklist, and an innovative calendaring system for the light brown apple moth program.       

The Best of California Awards program was established to honor IT professionals and projects in California state and local government and education organizations for their outstanding contributions, dedication and hard work.

The winners are selected by a panel of state and local government chief information officers based on a set of criteria, including collaboration between agencies, innovative use of technology, energy sustainability, and benefits and improvement of services to citizens and government employees.
