Release #08-027

STATEMENT ISSUED BY CDFA SECRETARY A.G. KAWAMURA ON UNITED STATES, MEXICO AND CANADA LIVE CATTLE TRADE

SACRAMENTO – “I’m pleased by the progress and collaboration between U.S, Canadian and Mexican officials in finalizing trade protocols that will allow U.S. live cattle exports to Mexico. Working together, the USDA and Mexican Government, with the support of four states (Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California), helped to overcome an international trade disagreement. The resumption of U.S. live cattle exports to Mexico is an important step for California and the nation – as the safety of our agricultural industry and the high quality of our food products are recognized once again.”
