CDFA REMEMBERS DEPUTY SECRETARY DAVID NUNENKAMP

CDFA REMEMBERS DEPUTY SECRETARY DAVID NUNENKAMP

SACRAMENTO, June 15, 2006 CDFA Deputy Secretary for Legislation David C. Nunenkamp passed away recently after a courageous fight against cancer.

Nunenkamp came to CDFA in 2003 and quickly won admiration in the agency for his dedication to agriculture and his commitment to family and community.

"David joined us with nearly four decades of experience in many walks of life," said CDFA Secretary A.G. Kawamura. "He inspired us every day with his intelligence and work ethic, and then with his courage in facing his illness. We miss him dearly and extend our deepest sympathies to his family."

A native of Oregon, Nunenkamp's career in the public and private sectors was extensive and varied; covering mining, aerospace, biomedicine, environmental management, energy, manufacturing and waste management in addition to agriculture and government. Nunenkamp worked for governors in six states; including California Governors Deukmejian, Wilson, Davis and Schwarzenegger; was chief environmental consultant and science advisor for the Assembly Republican Caucus; and served at the Governor's Office of Planning and Research.

Despite a busy schedule, Nunenkamp put in long hours as a volunteer for youth sports leagues and also served as athletic trainer for the Kennedy High School football team in Sacramento.

David Nunenkamp is survived by his wife, Ann, three children, his parents and a sister. A memorial service is planned on Friday, July 21, at 4 p.m., at Dooley Field in the Land Park area, 2 San Mateo Wy., Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, the family has established an education fund for Nunenkamp's two teenage sons at the Golden One Credit Union, 1330 Florin Rd., Sacramento, 95831.
