CDFA PARCEL INSPECTION DOG MAKING NATIONAL TV DEBUT

Brittany Spaniel appearing on Animal Planet cable channel

SACRAMENTO, July 27, 2001-Joe the Brittany Spaniel, a CDFA parcel inspection dog, is making his national TV debut on the Animal Planet program “Breed All About It”, which is scheduled to air Saturday, July 28th at 7:00 a.m.

CDFA uses parcel inspection dogs to sniff incoming packages from other states and countries. The dogs are a critical line of defense against exotic pests and have recently been put to work by the USDA in the preventive fight against foreign animal diseases.

“Our parcel inspection dogs are extremely helpful in the field,” said CDFA Secretary William (Bill) J. Lyons, Jr. “We’re honored that a cable channel that specializes in animals would consider our program worthy of a feature segment.”

Joe the Brittany Spaniel has been making public appearances for CDFA for several months now and has captured the hearts of thousands of Californians with his warmth and obvious enthusiasm for his job.
