DR. LOURMINIA SEN APPOINTED AS CDFA SCIENCE ADVISOR

SACRAMENTO-Governor Gray Davis has appointed Dr. Lourminia “Mimi” C. Sen to the position of Agricultural and Environmental Science Advisor for the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).

Dr. Sen, who has been employed by CDFA as a supervising chemist for the last 10 years, will serve as a technical consultant and representative on policy issues that impact agriculture.

Agriculture and Environmental Science Advisor is a new position at CDFA, developed to monitor increasingly complex scientific and technological advances. “The position of science advisor was created to give us a method to better evaluate how these advances affect agriculture,” said CDFA Secretary William (Bill) J. Lyons, Jr. “I want to congratulate Dr. Sen on her appointment. I know she’ll do an excellent job and set a very high standard for the position.”

Dr. Sen began her career in 1992 as a postgraduate biochemist at UC Davis. She served as a lecturer there from 1975 to 1982. She also managed the university’s Vitamin and Mineral Core Laboratory prior to accepting an offer from CDFA in 1991.
