"A.G. ON AG" - CALIFORNIA AGRICULTURE UPDATES - 2008
Transcript of Secretary A.G. Kawamura's Video: "The importance of Ag Day - Agriculture Day - for the State of California is to help Californians remember that the food system is not something we can take for granted, that food security, environmental stewardship, a fair marketplace, these are all the things that a Californian would demand from his food system. And in doing that, the California Department of Food and Agriculture has as its core mission those underlying principles. We are here to promote and protect the food systems of the state of California and we do that gladly, and we do that with a lot of enthusiasm. And more importantly, we do that looking for help, a helping hand, from the communities that will eat these products. And the toughest thing is, we see is that people forget where their food comes from, they forget that it's produced here in California, they forget that it takes a tremendous amount of work and effort to get it on their plate and this day is so important to us because it reminds everybody that that food supply is something that is not a given right, it's something that we have earned over a long, long time of hard effort."
