CDFA ACCEPTING GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR DAIRY METHANE REDUCTION PROGRAMS

SACRAMENTO, February 3, 2020 - The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is now accepting grant applications for dairy methane reduction programs administered by its Office of Environmental Farming and Innovation (OEFI) and funded by California Climate Investments (CCI).

CDFA’s dairy methane reduction programs provide financial assistance for the installation of dairy digesters and implementation of non-digester-based manure management practices that result in long-term methane emissions reductions and maximize environmental co-benefits on commercial dairy and livestock operations in California. These programs are funded through a $34 million appropriation from CCI, authorized by the Budget Act of 2019.

The following programs at CDFA are accepting grant applications:
•        Dairy Digester Research and Development Program (DDRDP)
Applications are due Friday, March 27, 2020 by 5 p.m. PT.
Detailed information including application process and requirements, application assistance workshops conducted by CDFA, and community outreach resources is available at www.cdfa.ca.gov/oefi/ddrdp.
•        Alternative Manure Management Program (AMMP)
Applications are due Friday, March 27, 2020 by 5 p.m. PT.
CDFA offers two grant opportunities under AMMP:
o    Incentives Program: Detailed information including application process, requirements, application assistance workshops conducted by CDFA, and a list of third-party technical assistance providers is available at www.cdfa.ca.gov/oefi/AMMP.
o    Demonstration Projects: “Advancing Practices Farmer-to-Farmer” will fund projects that demonstrate the implementation of alternative manure management practices on California dairy and livestock operations. Detailed information is available at www.cdfa.ca.gov/oefi/AMMP/DemoProject.html

DDRDP and AMMP are part of California Climate Investments (CCI), a statewide program that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment– particularly in disadvantaged communities. The Cap-and-Trade program also creates a financial incentive for industries to invest in clean technologies and develop innovative ways to reduce pollution. CCI projects include affordable housing, renewable energy, public transportation, zero-emission vehicles, environmental restoration, more sustainable agriculture, recycling and much more. At least 35 percent of these investments are located within and benefiting residents of disadvantaged communities, low-income communities and low-income households across California.
