Michelle Buffington - EFA SAP Member

Dr. Buffington oversees several initiatives at the California Air Resources Board that relate to mobile source emissions from farming practices. She began her career at CARB in 2007 developing the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, with a focus on biofuels and land use change. Over the last 6 years she and her team have focused on how to foster change in equipment turn-over and farming practices in order to improve air quality and reduce climate change impacts. This includes innovative incentives like the Funding Agricultural Replacement Measures for Emission Reductions (FARMER) Program, which has received over $300 million of funding over the last three years. Dr. Buffington received her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University, and her doctoral degree in Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry from the University of California, Davis.
