JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Systems and Network Services Unit of CDFA has a challenging opportunity for a Network Specialist with the right knowledge, skills, ability and attitude. Systems and Network Services is responsible for providing support for the network infrastructure, including file/print, email and application servers, and Cisco switches, routers and firewalls.
DUTIES:
Under general supervision of the Systems and Network Manager,
work independently and as a team member on a variety of information technology projects and tasks to implement, maintain and deploy proper hardware, software and service maintenance for mission critical equipment and applications while adhering to network security guidelines. Proactively research, follow and implement proper security policies and practices. Install hardware and software, analyze and correct hardware configurations, educate and train users, and administer the network. Provide backup for mission-critical functions which may include user-account maintenance, backups, anti-virus administration, and directory administration (Active, LDAP, and eDirectory). The position is occasionally required to work evenings and weekends to accomplish network support objectives. These off-shift hours are planned in advance as much as possible. In addition, three to five days of on-call time per month is required.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
The Network Specialist must possess the following essential skills and competencies: Troubleshoot and resolve difficult technical issues; Provide a good customer driven team oriented attitude; Provide good oral and written communication; Provide excellent interpersonal skills; Work effectively both independently and as a team member. The Network Specialist must possess a practical working knowledge in the following areas: Network operating systems and protocols (Microsoft 2000/2003, Novell, and Cisco IOS); Exchange, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP; Cisco Pix 515, Cisco 2800/4000/4500 series switches. The following skill sets are desirable but not essential: Fully native mode Active Directory Administration; Current version of WSUS; IT project management strategies and documentation; Compaq/HP Server hardware and Insight Manager; Certification in various networking technologies including MCSE, CCNA, CCNP a plus.
