SACRAMENTO, January 5, 2022 - The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is currently accepting proposals for the 2022 Pet Lover's License Plate grant program (Pet Lover’s), the 2022 Pet Lover’s Technical Review Committee, and the 2022 Prevention of Animal Homelessness and Animal Cruelty Fund (Prevention Fund).
2022 PET LOVER’S
Pet Lover’s makes available up to $488,000 in funding through fees associated with the original purchase, annual renewal, and conversion of Pet Lover's license plates from the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Funding is available on a competitive basis to veterinary facilities that are registered and in good standing with the Veterinary Medical Board, overseen by a responsible licensee manager licensed and in good standing with the Veterinary Medical Board, and operated by one of the following: a California city or county; city and county; an animal care or control agency; or a nonprofit meeting the requirements of Section 501(c)(3) of the federal Internal Revenue Code that is registered and in good standing with the Secretary of State. The CDFA is welcoming volunteers with knowledge and expertise in California's veterinary, animal rescue/shelter, and animal services industries to serve on the 2022 Pet Lover’s Technical Review Committee (TRC). This committee reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations to CDFA on proposals submitted for funding to Pet Lover’s.2022 PREVENTION FUND
The CDFA will begin accepting applications for the Prevention Fund on February 1, 2022. The Prevention Fund is supported by California taxpayer contributions and anticipates awarding up to $250,000 on a competitive basis to be distributed to municipal animal control agencies, and eligible society for the prevention of animal cruelty affiliates and humane society affiliates for the sole purpose of spay and neuter activities to eliminate cat and dog homelessness.
