CDFA ANNOUNCES A VACANCY ON THE SHELL EGG ADVISORY COMMITTEE

SACRAMENTO, January 26, 2015   The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), Egg Safety and Quality Management (ESQM) program is announcing a vacancy on the Shell Egg Advisory Committee (SEAC).  The SEAC makes recommendations to the Secretary of CDFA on all matters pertaining to quality standards for shell eggs, uniformity of inspection, adjustment of fees for proper administration and enforcement, and the annual budget.
 
The term of office for a member of SEAC is three years.  Members of the Committee receive no compensation, but are entitled to payment of necessary travel expenses in accordance with rules of the Department of Personnel Administration.
 
This vacancy is for a Public Member; therefore, applicants should not be a registered egg handler or a representative of a registered egg handler.  Individuals interested in being considered for appointment should send a brief resume by February 9, 2015, to the California Department of Food and Agriculture Ė Egg Safety and Quality Management Program, 1220 N Street, Sacramento, California 95814, Attention: Anthony Herrera.  
 
ESQM monitors egg quality at production, wholesale, and retail levels.  The goal is to provide California consumers with eggs that are wholesome, properly labeled, refrigerated, and of established quality, while maintaining fair and equitable marketing standards in the California egg industry. Local inspections are carried out by staff from the County Agricultural Commissionerís Office (http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/exec/county/county_contacts.html). ESQM provides supervision and training to the counties to ensure consistency and uniform application of standards throughout the State.
