CALIFORNIA CELEBRATES AG DAY 2008 – CELEBRITY CHEF, USDA SECRETARY AND LOTS OF CALIFORNIA GROWN PRODUCTS

Be it cows, alpacas or solar oven sweet potato fries – see it all on March 25th at the State Capitol

SACRAMENTO – California’s love of food, livestock and music comes together on March 25, 2008 at the State Capitol as Ag Day 2008 rolls into town – a smorgasbord of activities, agricultural innovations and great California grown products. Special guests include U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer and Food Network celebrity chef Guy Fieri.

It is not everyday that you see the diversity of California agriculture in one place,” said A.G. Kawamura, California Secretary of Food and Agriculture. “It’s an excellent event to educate the public and the legislature while celebrating one of the greatest industries in our state – I’m pleased that USDA Secretary Schafer will be joining us for this event.”

Ag Day will showcase California agriculture in a variety of ways – from Chef Guy Fieri’s “Cooking with your Kids” event to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and solar ovens heating up some great sweet potato fries.  The California Department of Food and Agriculture in collaboration with California’s Women for Agriculture create this event to remind the farmers and ranchers, state legislators and the public that “Decisions Today will be Impacting Tomorrow,” the theme of Ag Day 2008.

Ag Day 2008 will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the west steps of the State Capitol. The event is open to the public at 11:30 a.m. Ag Day is designed to give California’s agriculture community a day of recognition and appreciation by bringing together state legislators, government leaders and the public.
