Buildings to act as shelters from the heat
SACRAMENTO – Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today directed the California Department of Food and Agriculture to coordinate with all local fairgrounds in California to provide cooled buildings to Californians needing relief from the heat wave.
The fairgrounds are being asked to establish a building or buildings on the premises where people may gather for as long as necessary until the conclusion of the heat wave.
“State and local facilities need to utilize our assets to protect Californians from the relentless heat – providing cooled buildings at fairgrounds is an example of the kind of cooperation that will greatly help our vulnerable citizens,” said Governor Schwarzenegger.
California has 78 local fairs overseen by the California Department of Food and Agricultures. Of those, 75 operate facilities that would be opened to the public under this request. The other three operate without facilities. The facilities and their locations are available by following this link: www.cdfa.ca.gov/fe/fairlist.asp
