SECRETARY KAWAMURA ANNOUNCES VACANCIES ON NAVEL AND VALENCIA ORANGE ADVISORY COMMITTEE


SACRAMENTO, CA – California Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary A.G. Kawamura is announcing five member vacancies for the Navel and Valencia Orange Advisory Committee.  Appointments will be for three producer and two handler positions.  The committee makes recommendations to the secretary of agriculture on all matters pertaining to the Navel and Valencia program, annual budget, and the necessary fees to provide adequate inspection services. 

The Food and Agricultural Code established this eight-member committee.  Four of the producer members shall be engaged in the production of Navel or Valencia oranges in the San Joaquin Valley, and two of those four members shall be engaged in production in Tulare County.  The three handler members shall have their principal place of business located in one of the following counties: Fresno, Kern, Madera, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Clara, Tulare and Ventura.  Two of the three handlers shall be located in the San Joaquin Valley and one shall be located in southern California.
