LYONS CONGRATULATES A.G. KAWAMURA ON SELECTION AS CDFA SECRETARY

SACRAMENTO – CDFA Secretary William (Bill) J. Lyons, Jr. is congratulating Orange County grower and shipper A.G. Kawamura following his selection as secretary of agriculture in the Schwarzenegger Administration.

“I wish to offer my support and best wishes to my good friend A.G. Kawamura. He is an outstanding choice,” said Secretary Lyons. “He understands agriculture from the perspective of an entrepreneur, which I think is critical for success in this position. His interests in nutrition and hunger are a perfect fit for an industry that is uniquely qualified to help through innovation and dedication.”

Secretary-designate Kawamura has a commitment to public service in agriculture, including service to CDFA through membership on the California State Board of Food and Agriculture. He also holds board positions with the Western Institute for Food Safety and Security and the California Institute for the Study of Specialty Crops, both of which are programs established by CDFA’s Buy California Initiative.

Secretary Lyons, who has served in the position since 1999, is pledging a smooth, informative transition for Secretary-designate Kawamura.

“This is a complex and fast-paced job,” said Lyons. “I have instructed CDFA staff to provide A.G. with all the support necessary for a successful transition.”

Secretary-designate Kawamura will take office following the swearing-in of Governor-elect Schwarzenegger later this month. Kawamura’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the California State Senate.
