GORDON REUHL REMEMBERED AS AGRICULTURE AND MARKETING PIONEER

Was first executive director of California Milk Advisory Board

SACRAMENTO – CDFA Secretary William (Bill) J. Lyons, Jr. joins all of agriculture in paying respects to Gordon B. Ruehl, who was remembered this week at memorial services in Modesto. Mr. Ruehl, who passed away at the age of 88, was the first executive director of the California Milk Advisory Board.

“Gordon Reuhl helped pave the way for high-level marketing of California agricultural products,” said Secretary Lyons. “He will long be remembered for the gains he brought to the dairy industry, and for his dedication. My deepest sympathies to his family.”

Mr. Reuhl organized the American Dairy Association of California, which went on to become the California Milk Advisory Board in 1969. Then-Governor Ronald Reagan signed the legislation that created the board, with Reuhl serving as executive director until 1976. Under his leadership, the board unveiled its legendary “Milk Has Something for Every Body” advertising campaign.
