SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is seeking nominations to fill three vacancies on the California Organic Products Advisory Committee. A representative of the retail industry will be appointed to one position. Consumer representatives will be appointed to fill the other two vacancies.
The California Organic Products Act of 2003 established the 15-member committee to advise CDFA Secretary William (Bill) J. Lyons, Jr. on current issues related to organic food production. “This is a good opportunity for consumers and the retail sector to play an important role in the development of this industry,” said Secretary Lyons.
The retail representative must derive a substantial portion of income from marketing organic products. The consumer representatives must not have a financial interest in the direct sales or marketing of organic products.
The Department invites written nominations for possible appointment to the committee. Nominations should include the nominee’s name, address, telephone number, and a brief statement outlining credentials and experience.
Nominations will be accepted until the positions are filled. Nominations can be mailed to CDFA Organic Program, 1220 N Street, Room A-447, Sacramento, CA 95814, or e-mailed to Rgreen@cdfa.ca.gov. For additional information contact Ray Green, 916-654-4905.
