MEASUREMENT STANDARDS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERS SOUGHT

Group to consider regulatory issues

SACRAMENTO, March 28, 2002- The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is seeking nominations for a new measurement standards advisory committee, which will study issues and make recommendations on regulatory issues pertaining to commercial weighing and measuring equipment.

To be considered for positions, candidates must represent one of the following groups: service agencies, county sealers, manufacturers of commercial weighing and measuring devices, industry clients of service agencies, and the general public. Advisory committee members will not receive compensation for their time but may be reimbursed for authorized travel expenses. The committee will meet at the call of CDFA or any committee member, but not less often than once each year.

Commercial weighing and measuring devices are instruments used as the basis of settlement in the buying and selling of every sort of commodity or service. Examples are service station gasoline dispensers, grocery store check-stand registers, vehicle scales, truck-mounted meters for deliveries of various liquids, taxi meters, and utility submeters. County sealers, working under the authority of the CDFA Secretary, routinely inspect these devices to insure that all parties to transactions receive accurate measurements.
Individuals who wish to serve are invited to submit a letter of interest and a statement of qualifications. Nominations will be accepted until April 15, 2002, or until the committee positions are filled. Please address all correspondence to:
