Most importantly, remember that these germs are often spread around to your birds by people. So, it's important to control who comes into contact with your flock. We call this traffic control. Along with this, you should isolate your birds and keep them away from people, other birds and anything else that might carry germs. Lastly, keep your bird area clean and sanitary.

The germs are often found in manure and other discharges from infected birds. Because they are invisible to us, they can be easily picked up on our hand, shoes, cages and equipment. Unknowingly then, the germs rub off on the birds when we are feeding or petting them and they become sick.
