fasciatus Macquart, 1848. Could be confused with: Irwiniella, Megathereva, Actenomeros, Taenogera. Systematic grouping:
Therevinae. Distribution: Australia, New Caledonia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand. Comments: Anabarhynchus is closely related to Megathereva and is the most species rich genus in the region (approx. 200 species). There are still many undescribed species in collections. Members of Anabarhynchus are relatively pilose, robust therevids. Spot characters to look for when identifying this genus include velutum patches on the fore and hind femora absent, wing cell m3 open, mutiple rows of postocular setae in both sexes (often), two spermathecae, ventral apodeme not forked.
