Larval Survey
The Mediterranean Fruit Fly Exclusion Program Larval Survey Team consists of a team of employees that sample fruit from focused areas around wholesale produce markets, fruit importers, historical sites for Medfly finds and exotic fruit markets. The employees slice the fruit or vegetables into small sections and examine the produce for any evidence of fruit fly larvae, "maggots."
In the case of a Medfly find, this team of employees also works in the community to gain the cooperation and access from homeowners to sample residential fruit trees for the purpose of determining if a breeding population exists.
