In 1993, through an effort to expand the capabilities of the Biological Control Program (BCP), the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) engaged in a lease agreement with the Department of General Services. The BCP leases approximately 3.0 acres of land including 10,000 sq. ft. of greenhouse space, shaded growing areas and open fields suitable for planting a variety of crops.
The main activities at the North B Street site are to propagate host plants, maintenance of host insect colonies, and mass rear various beneficial insects for field release. Host plant testing and outdoor rearing studies also take place on a limited basis. Personnel at the facility are currently working with rearing parasites to combat the Silverleaf Whitefly, Bemisia argentifolii, and lygus bug, Lygus hesperus.
Driving Directions
Driving from the Bay Area, head East on I-80 towards Sacramento. Take the I-80 Business Loop exit left towards Sacramento /South Lake /US50. Take the I-5 North/South exit towards Los Angeles /Redding, merge onto the I-5 North ramp and then I-5North for approximately 1.6 miles. Take the Richards Blvd exit and drive East for 0.7 miles, turn right on North 7th St. and drive 0.3miles. Turn right on North B St., facility located on the corner lot.
From the Redding area, head South on I-5 towards Sacramento, take the Richards Blvd. exit and head East for 0.7 miles, turn right on North 7th St. and drive 0.3 miles. Facility on corner of North B Street and North 7th Street.
Driving North on I-5 from the Lodi/Modesto area, head through Sacramento and take the Richards Blvd. exit and head East for 0.7 miles, turn right on North 7th St. and drive 0.3 miles. Facility on corner of North B Street and North 7th Street.
From the Placerville area, take US-50 West towards Sacramento. Continue West through the I-80/SR-99 Interchange going towards San Francisco, merge to right lanes. Take the I-5 North /I-5 South exit towards Los Angeles/Redding, merge onto I-5 North ramp and onto I-5 North for approximately 1.5 miles. Take the Richards Blvd exit and drive East for 0.7 miles, turn right on North 7th St. and drive 0.3miles. Turn right on North B St., facility located on the corner lot.
