The Department of Food and Agriculture has the responsibility to examine and license County Agricultural Commissioners, County Sealers of Weights and Measures and Deputies, County Agricultural Inspector/Biologists, and County Weights and Measures Inspectors. This requirement provides for uniformity in the examination of these classifications throughout the State of California. It is essential to license the technical proficiency of county employees performing in these areas to provide adequate protection and service to the affected industries and consumers.

The County Licensing Program is within the Human Resources Branch of the Department of Food and Agriculture. Testing is administered twice a year for agricultural and weights and measures inspectors and on an annual basis for Commissioners, Sealers and Deputies.

The testing is completed in the Spring and Fall every year, usually in October and May. You may contact the County Licensing Program at (916) 654-9633 and at (916) 654-0422 for more information or to request that your name be placed on a mailing list to receive more information on examinations times and dates.
