Our Mission
The Emergency Preparedness & Support Unit (EPSU) has statewide responsibility for the development and maintenance of programs intended to prepare for or respond to emergencies that fall under the jurisdiction of the Animal Health & Food Safety Services (AHFSS) Division in the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
EPSU plans, organizes, and coordinates the AHFSS emergency prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery activities related to milk processing and livestock and poultry production, to include:
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation
- Incident Command System (ICS) Emergency Management
- Premises Biosecurity Programs
- Employee Health and Safety Program and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Scenario–Based Training & Exercises
- Emergency Outreach and Education
- Animal Quality Assurance Programs
