Demand Safer Food
The demand for a safer food of both plant and animal origin has grown in recent years. This demand has prompted food producers to develop new production practices to address consumer concerns about the food that we eat. Changes in food production and handling practices, food preferences, as well as an increase in the number of susceptible humans with weakened immune systems further emphasizes the need to provide safe food for all.
In response to the need for a safer food supply, CDFA, along with other government agencies, is working pro-actively with producers of plant and animal commodities to design and implement voluntary on-farm quality assurance programs that address food safety issues. Food producers are implementing voluntary process-oriented practices, based on the principles of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) with the goal of preventing and minimizing the risks of contamination at the production point in the food chain.
