FARM BILL: Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D)
An existing Farm Bill program, the RC&D program is intended to integrate local resource-based rural economic development with conservation goals. Finding economic values for California hardwoods to encourage better management and conservation of native hardwood tree species is an example from one California RC&D program. Local citizens apply for an RC&D designation for their area through the NRCS. Once approved, NRCS contributes staff. The work of the RC&D is governed by a locally representative RC&D council.
